All content on EnvironmentalHealthNews.org is available for syndication. This means that EnvironmentalHealthNews.org provides the means for you to post news that you care about directly to your own web site. For an example of a site using syndicated "feeds" from EHN, see OurPlanet (sponsored by the United Nations Environment Programme) When people visit this page, the host computer sends a message to our server, requesting the most recent data from our database meeting the criteria OurPlanet have used to define the feed. The information is then displayed using their "look and feel." The first step in setting up EHN newsfeeds on your site is to identify what content you wish included in your feed. Below you will find a list of sample pre-formed feeds by subject. You don't need to use these pre-formed feeds. It's very easy to build your own custom feeds tailored to meet your exact specifications: Go to the archives and run a search using terms and categories that define the feed you want. When the search is complete, you will see an orange RSS icon in the bottom left of the screen. Clicking on this icon will open a page that contains the feed and instruction about how to display it, as well as additional information about the feed itself. EHN currently offers feeds in two formats: RSS (Rich Site Summary) 1.0, and Javascript. Javascript is the easiest way to include EHN's syndicated content on your web site. You'll find a link to the wizard on the page that opens up when you click the RSS icon. When the wizard opens up it shows you the feed content and its display characteristics. The wizard will help you match the formatting of your chosen feed to that of your own web site. For web sites that already have RSS support, the RSS 1.0 feed is the most flexible. The RSS 1.0 feed can also be used in desktop news aggregators like NewzCrawler (Windows) or NetNewsWire (Mac), or web-based aggregators like Bloglines. Sample feeds:
