In this example, the XML Stylesheet Language (XSL) and Server-Side Includes (SSI) are used to add articles from EnvironmentalHealthNews.org's main RSS feed to an existing web page. This is an excellent option for adding EHN's news to your existing page(s) if your web server supports Server-Side Includes (most do; ask your system administrator or web host if you're not sure). We use XSL to transform the EHN feed into a 'chunk' of HTML and save it to a file. We then use SSI to have the web server dynamically 'include' (insert) that file into an existing web page.

You will need an XSL processor, the XSL stylesheet, and a way to schedule the task so it gets regularly updated with new content from the EHN feed. If your web server is running Linux, you probably already have everything you need. We use 'cron' for scheduling, and 'xsltproc' for our XSL processor. The example cron entry below will apply the XSL stylesheet rss_ssi.xsl to the RSS feed http://www.environmentalhealthnews.org/archives_rss.jsp and save the HTML output as ehn_include.html every hour, on the hour.

0 * * * * xsltproc -o /usr/www/ehn_include.html /usr/www/rss_ssi.xsl http://www.environmentalhealthnews.org/archives_rss.jsp

All that's left to do is 'include' that HTML chunk in an existing web page. We accomplished this by inserting the line below in a table cell.
<!--#include virtual="ehn_include.html" -->
