She has worked for 30 years in journalism, public relations and science communication, beginning as a reporter at the award-winning Aspen Times weekly newspaper in her native town of Aspen, Colo., and subsequently as features editor at the Daily News-Record in Harrisonburg, Va. She spent the next decade working respectively as university newspaper editor, assistant director of media relations, and university website content director at James Madison University. Before assuming her current position with EHS, she led the communications program for the Virginia Graduate Marine Science Consortium (Virginia Sea Grant) for six years.
She lives in rural Fluvanna County with her partner and numerous animals. She is an avid organic gardener, and her interest in chemical-free products has inspired her to create an experimental line of hand-made natural skin care potions and soap.
