Carys L. Mitchelmore, Ph.D., is an associate professor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science's Chesapeake Biological Laboratory. She uses biochemical and molecular research techniques to understand the metabolism and effects of pollutants in aquatic organisms. She is particularly interested in how pollutants cause oxygen stress and DNA damage in an array of species, including corals.
